What Soothes Me

A sharp new point on a dull pencil.

Hot coffee after a restless night.

Watching the branches wave

hello to the morning sky.

The whistling snore of

the cat deep in sleep.

Reading old letters.

Soup – of any kind.

The ache of muscles saying

“the wood is in” or

“the weeds are pulled”.

That moment at the end of day

when finally, finally I sit, hold

the joys and frustrations up

for one last look, and swap them

for a single glass of wine.
