Tiny Allies

It is the smallest things

that find their way into

the wellspring of my heart.

The microscopic spider

hardly bigger than a comma

who lives on my keyboard,

scampering out on occasion

to run laps around the Q.

Tiny jewels with ruby throats

who hummmm at the window

when the feeder is empty

of sweet nectar.

Specks of mica that wink

from the gravelly driveway

as I stoop to gingerly move

a soft slip of salamander.

Droplets of water

so teensy that they

float together

as clouds.
