Slumber Party

I missed you so

as I lay in bed last night,

remembering your warmth

on the other side of me.

Strange how I can feel it still.

I breathe a heavy sigh

and turn to burrow deeper.

I hear an answering sigh.

This night is not as lonely

as it could have been.

The dog has crept upon the bed,

burrowed deep into your pillows

and generates a steady warmth

on the other side of me.

She breathes a heavy sigh,

perhaps to catch a wisp

of your familiar scent.

We miss you so.

But eventually

     we sleep.
