Bring Snacks

bethblairnh8

If I put my mind to it, I could give

you directions to the country store.

It is, after all, just half a mile away –

a right at the end of my driveway,

go straight until you see the gazebo,

park by the white fence. “Watch out

for turtles as you pass the fire pond,”

I might caution, but that’s as much

advice as I would dare offer. For any

journey longer than this my instructions

will most likely be useless to you, for

our baggage has different handles and

our destinations are a mystery to each

other. Yet here we sit on the platform

together, both tired and a bit shopworn.

Maybe the most I can say to you is...

are you hungry? Would you like

half a sandwich? I have a thermos

and 2 cups. Let us drink together and

gather our strength before we step

forward. Let us remember and be

grateful for this quiet moment.
